semiotic analysis of album cover
From looking at this album cover for blink 182, at first glance i can see that the cover is dominated by the use of bold black lettering and doodle style image portraying a sense of rebliousness. This sense on rebelion is created with the cross eyes on a smiley face which is a negative view on a normal smiley face making it more individual to the band. The use of the blink-182 lettering creates a logo for the band which helps portray the brand image which resolves in a wider audience. The use of the colour black connotates a rock/punk genre however the pop punk aspect is created with the blue and pink paint style background. These colours are initially thought to be for both boys and girls and therefore target a wider audience. The bright colours also create a happy feeling to the album cover portraying a lighter side to the punk genre.

In connection with the blink-182 album cover this advertisement in the form of a magazine page again portrays the bands image through branding them as rebelious punk/ rock artists. This is created throught the black clothing with logo tshirts and tatoos. The confident poses and smug facial expressions also fit in with the generic conventions of a punk/rock band being rebelious. The use of the black clothing also makes the band stand out on a colourful background making them more iconic to gain wider audiences. The use of the bands name stands out in red, a typical rock colour for the genre while the font is quite big getting accross the band name and image.

inspirational album covers

From looking at these album covers from the pop punk genre i can see that many artist choose not to have the band photo on the cover and have a drawing/illustration instead. However when some bands choose to have a photo it is well edited maily using a contrast of black and bright
bold colours sometimes forming a cartoon look.
